UKIAH, Calif., Sept. 18 -- The Mendocino County Executive issued the following news release:
The County of Mendocino recently replaced the fitness course equipment located at the Low Gap Regional Park in Ukiah. In 2013, the existing fitness course equipment was declared unsafe by the County's Safety Officer. Therefore, the General Services Agency pursued replacement options through the County's insurance program.
Under the direction of Tom Moore, the County's facilities and parks maintenance staff, prisoners from Chamberlin Creek Conservation Camp installed the 20-station fit-trail course, updated and replaced signage throughout the park, and performed trail maintenance to ensure that the trails are safe and accessible to the public.
"The County is very excited to be able to offer this recreational enhancement to our citizens and the users of this beautiful County resource," commented Carmel J. Angelo, the Chief Executive Officer. "The County took into consideration all of the various users of the park when implementing park improvements. We wanted all users of the park (hikers, nature and wildlife supporters, frisbee golfers, dog owners, trail runners, and fitness enthusiasts) to be able to enjoy the park," added Kristin McMenomey, the General Services Agency Director.
The County has completed the installation of the fitness trail course and encourages the community to visit the park and enjoy all the recreational activities the park has to offer.
