Congressman Ruben Hinojosa to Kick Off 2-Day ACA Enrollment Fair in Mcallen & Joins PSJA ACA Workshop at Bowie Elementary School in Alamo

WASHINGTON, March 19 -- Rep. Ruben Hinojosa, D-Texas (15th CD), issued the following news release:

Congressman Ruben Hinojosa (D-TX-15) will kick of the Affordable Care Act enrollment fair at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 20 at the McAllen Convention Center. Joining the Congressman will be McAllen Mayor Jim Darling and Joe Medrano with the Get Covered America Campaign.

The 2 day enrollment fair will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 20 and Friday March 21. The deadline to enroll in the ACA health care program is . Congressman Hinojosa in conjunction with Get Covered America, MHP, VAIL, SRA International, COGNOSANTE and South Texas Health Systems will provide assistance and information to the attendees.

"For years Hispanic Americans have been one of America's most disproportionately uninsured populations," said U.S. Rep. Hinojosa. "As many as 1 in 4 uninsured individuals eligible for coverage in the new health care marketplaces are Hispanic. This will provide 10.2 million uninsured Latinos with new opportunities for affordable health insurance coverage. Gallup released a poll showing the number of uninsured Americans has dropped to its lowest level since Obama took office 6 years ago. Unfortunately the poll also showed that Hispanics remain the group most likely to lack health insurance. This is why it is so important that those who are eligible enroll in the Affordable Care Act health care program."

Those wishing to enroll are asked to bring their social security number, their W2 tax return and their income pay stubs.

Also on at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 20th, Congressman Hinojosa will join PSJA Superintendent, Dr. Daniel King, and members of ARISE for an ACA informational workshop at James Bowie Elementary School, 811 Bowie St. in Alamo. The ACA workshop is for all PSJA parents who are part of the Parental Engagement Program that provides more continuing education opportunities at PSJA ISD. Participants will be able to ask questions concerning what the ACA health care plans have to offer and to find out more on the enrollment process for the ACA. The deadline to enroll in the ACA health care program is March 31, 2014.
