Company: Newville’s bill is 14 months late

July 30--NEWVILLE -- The Newville Borough Council is 14 months late on a bill for new LED lights that were installed in stoplights throughout the borough, according to a woman with the company in charge of the project.

Sharon Pellman, of Pennsylvania Preventative Emergency Response Certified Services in Mechanicsburg, approached the council at Tuesday's meeting because the company had yet to receive payment. She had corresponded numerous times via email with Fred Potzer, Newville borough manager, about the bill. In those emails, Potzer told Pellman that the money was being sent or was already on the way, she said during the meeting.

Pellman said that 14 months was too long. She brought to the meeting a bill for the amount that was agreed upon, plus late fees and a discrepancy of $45.

Potzer said the payment was held up because the borough was waiting to receive a state grant. The $5,400 grant was received a couple weeks ago, and Potzer said the check was sent to Pennsylvania PERCS on Friday.

Council President Jody Gilbert advised Pellman that if the company does not receive the check by the end of the week, she should contact Potzer.

In other news

After an executive session, the council voted to allow Solicitor Marcus McKnight to send a letter to the Friendship Hose Company telling them that the fire police calendar of events has been revoked. This would mean that if fire police were to show up to an event on that calendar, they would not be covered under the borough's insurance policy.
