China’s Shanghai Wind Information Selects IBM to Deliver Leading Cloud-Based Risk Service

PR Newswire Association LLC

SHANGHAI and ARMONK, N.Y., Aug. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced that Shanghai Wind Information (Wind Info) has selected IBM to help provide its users in China with new cloud-based analytics tools to better manage financial risks and meet regulatory requirements.

This partnership builds on IBM's expertise working with global financial institutions to help address challenging regulatory requirements in risk.

Wind Info, a leading service provider of financial data, research, information and software, serves more than 90 percent of the financial enterprises in the Chinese market, including securities, fund management firms, insurance companies, banks and investment firms. As the leading provider of trading terminals in China, its technology is present in virtually every bank and asset manager in the country.

Chinese regulatory authorities are now requiring more sophistication in risk monitoring and reporting to ensure stability and protect the Chinese financial system in an increasingly complex environment. To meet these evolving regulations, Wind Info needs advanced risk management capabilities for its Wind Terminal systems, which are used by traders to buy and sell stocks, bonds and other financial products.

Wind Info will incorporate IBM's cloud-based risk management software, IBM Algo Risk Service on Cloud, and the locally installed IBM Algo One Risk Aggregator directly into its Trading Terminals, creating a hybrid solution that will conduct sophisticated risk data processing in the cloud while keeping all client position data protected and confidential within the boundaries of China, an important requirement of Chinese law. The new solution is expected to be available later this year.

"As Chinese financial markets continue to grow not only in size but also complexity, investors from all around the world are looking to invest in this region, and we want to provide them with tools of the highest caliber to enable them to fulfill regulatory requirements and to help maximize returns," said Jin Jian, Vice President, Shanghai Wind Information. "Working with IBM, Wind Info is excited to bring new innovative services to our clients and help pave the way for financial trading success in China."

"With its extensive Chinese-specific market data and IBM's risk solutions and expertise, Wind Info is in the unique position to deliver a risk service focused on the specific characteristics of the financial markets in China," said Dr. Andrew Aziz, Director of Risk Analytics, IBM.  "We're pleased to be teaming with Wind Info to help their clients optimize their trading decisions."

Integrating IBM risk analytics software into Wind Terminals in China will provide a fully customizable, integrated risk framework for advanced portfolio and risk analytics that is first-of-a-kind in China, helping clients confidently address regulatory requirements, improve investor confidence, formulate investment decisions and overall, help make financial markets safer. Together, IBM and Wind Info will help provide their clients with world-class financial risk management capabilities to meet the demands of an increasingly complex business environment.
