Frontline Insurance Provides Scholarship Opportunity for Florida Students

PR Web

Orlando, Florida (PRWEB) August 07, 2014

Step Up For Students announced today that Frontline Insurance, based in Lake Mary, FL, has committed $760,000 to the Step Up For Students Scholarship Program for the 2014-15 school year. Frontline Insurance's commitment will fund more than 140 scholarships for low-income Florida students.

"With so many of our clients and employees based in Florida, contributing to the Step Up For Students Scholarship Program makes perfect sense," said Frontline Insurance President Leman Porter. "Investing in our community through the education of our youth is something that Frontline is proud to do, and we know there can be no better return on that investment than thriving students."

Step Up For Students administers the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship Program, which provides scholarships to qualified low-income families throughout Florida. Scholarships are funded by corporations that receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit for their contributions. The program allows recipients to choose between a scholarship to help with K-12 private school tuition and fees, or a transportation scholarship to attend an out-of-district public school.

This is the first year Frontline Insurance, comprised of Fidelity Fire and Casualty and First Protective Insurance companies serving coastal homeowners in the Southeastern United States, joined the scholarship program as a donor and corporate partner.

"We are excited that Frontline Insurance has committed to help us provide educational choices for students who otherwise wouldn't have this opportunity," said Doug Tuthill, President of Step Up For Students. "We are grateful for our partnership with Frontline and for all they're doing to help Florida children access the educational environment that best fits the way they learn."

During the 2013-14 school year, more than 9,300 students in Orange, Osceola, Lake and Seminole counties received scholarships, where 184 schools in the area participate in the program. Step Up For Students expects to serve approximately 67,000 students throughout Florida for the 2014-15 school year.

About Step Up For Students
Step Up For Students is a nonprofit organization responsible for administering the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship Program. The scholarship program is available to students who qualify for free- or reduced-price lunch and students who are in foster care or who are homeless. It provides tuition assistance to the private school of their parents' choice or transportation help to an out-of-district public school. Scholarships are funded by corporations that receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit for their contributions.

Step Up For Students also helps administer state-funded personal learning scholarship accounts (PLSA) for Florida students with special needs. With the PLSA's, recipients may use the funds for a variety of educational-related services including private tutoring, occupational therapy, instructional materials and other services.
