WARNOCK STATEMENT ON NEWS THAT OVER HALF A MILLION GEORGIANS HAVE DROPPED HEALTH CARE COVERAGE

According to new reporting by The Current and the GA Recorder, more than half a million Georgians have dropped health insurance coverage amid stiff premium price hikes for federally subsidized Affordable Care Act plans

1.2 million Georgians saw their monthly health care premiums double because of the GOP tax cuts

President Trump and the Congressional GOP cut Georgians' health care to fund tax cuts for billionaires and expand unaccountable immigration enforcement

Washington, D.C. Today, U.S. Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) released the following statement after new reporting by The Current and the Georgia Recorder found that more than half a million Georgians have dropped health insurance coverage amid shocking premium price hikes for federally subsidized Affordable Care Act plans.

"Today's reporting confirms what we've long feared: when the folks in power in Washington put billionaires above everyday people, Georgians pay the price. Thousands of Georgians who would otherwise have health care coverage will go bankrupt from treatable illnesses or avoid getting care until it's too late. Republicans in Congress even shut down the government to avoid funding tax credits that could have avoided these catastrophic coverage losses. I've been fighting for health care long before I came to Congress, and I'll never stop my fight to make health care available to everyone."

Due to health care cuts allowed in President Trump and Washington Republicans' One Big Beautiful Bill, enhanced ACA health insurance tax credits have expired for Plan Year 2026. The expired enhanced ACA credits increased insurance premiums for ACA customers across the country, and millions nationwide are expected to drop their ACA insurance because of higher premiums. As a result, Georgia faces some of the steepest cuts to its health care sector in the country at $3.7 billion.

Senator Warnock has long championed efforts to expand affordable health care access. During the longest government shutdown in American history last year, Senator Warnock was a leading proponent in the fight to protect lower health care costs for 22 million Americans who were set to see their ACA premiums double.
