CRICO/Risk Management Foundation and Pascal Metrics Announce Partnership and Risk Appraisal and Plan (RAP) ™ PLUS

WASHINGTON, Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- RMF Strategies, a division of CRICO/RMF, and Pascal Metrics are pleased to announce a partnership that will enable healthcare systems to manage clinical risk with the required foundation in a culture of safety.  The alliance brings together RMF Strategies, the leader in risk management assessment across healthcare, with Pascal Metrics, the leader in patient safety analytics and intervention.

Concurrent with this announcement, RMF Strategies and Pascal are releasing the Risk Appraisal and Plan (RAP)™ PLUS, building on RMF Strategies highly successful Risk Assessment Process (RAP).  Relied upon by premier healthcare providers, boards of directors and risk managers use the RAP when designing new risk management programs as well as to provide a regular assessment of a risk management program that is delivered by an external and independent authority.  In addition, clients benefit from RMF Strategies malpractice claims comparative database, the largest in the world.

The RAP PLUS extends the offering by integrating an understanding of a healthcare provider's culture of safety as well as recommendations on how to improve.  Core to the enhancement are insights and recommendations by world-renown patient safety and quality experts, as well as Pascal HealthBench™, a web-based platform for providing safety culture metrics, analytics, and data-driven intervention support.  HealthBench, the first software-as-a-service platform in patient safety analytics leads the field, being used by over 500 healthcare providers and payors, including many of the world's most prestigious teaching hospitals,

Commenting on the partnership, Dr. Luke Sato, Chief Medical Officer of CRICO/RMF, stated that "We are finding teaching hospitals and major healthcare systems recognizing that, without a culture of safety, efforts to manage clinical risk – or even programs to adopt Six Sigma or Lean – will prove limited.  RMF is delighted to partner with the patient safety culture field's well-known leader and innovator."

Dr. Allan Frankel, Principal and Co-Lead of Pascal's Clinical group, added that, "Given the clinical and financial pressures in today's healthcare environment, both senior clinical and executive leaders increasingly view improved outcomes and reduced costs as inextricably linked to superior risk management.  We at Pascal couldn't be more delighted to be partnering with CRICO/RMF, the 'gold standard' in risk management."

To the RAP's three-month engagement using claims, clinical data, and qualitative interview analysis, RAP PLUS adds (1) clinical engagement with world renowned patient safety and quality experts; (2) a patient safety culture measurement powered by the field-leading Pascal HealthBench™ that delves into specific clinical area level culture-driven risk; (3) an RMF-Pascal Metrics integrated analysis of claims, incident-based risk, improvement skills, and leadership and teamwork culture to identify actionable areas for improvement to help intelligently focus action and resources; (4) an integrated consultation with both medical malpractice advisors and clinical leaders expert to discuss findings; and (5) optional bundled services provided jointly or individually by RMF and/or Pascal Metrics.

Drew Ladner, Pascal's CEO, summarized by saying that "Optimal risk management must not only bring to bear science, clinical expertise, and software but also support an execution roadmap that scales cost-effectively across an entire healthcare system.  The RAP PLUS helps take that first step."
