The small-/mid-cap indices and the Nasdaq 100/Comp have crossed back above their 200 day ema/sma on the recovery off this week's low. Both the S&P 500 and Dow have staged solid rebounds but they are still hovering slightly under these widely watched levels (currently at 1101/1104 and 10254/10278).

Co and International Paper (IP) announced that they have signed a definitive agreement to form a joint venture in which Natural Resource Partners will be the managing and controlling partner with a 51% interest. The new joint venture will own and manage the current leases as well as the further development of the more than 7 mln mineral acres currently held by International Paper. Natural Resource Partners will pay International Paper ~$42.5 mln at closing, which is anticipated to occur in mid-June.

Noted in the 09:33 update that the index was eyeing the Fri/Mon/Wed highs and the 38% retrace of the 1173 to 1040 decline with a minor secondary barrier at 1095. A pause near the initial zone saw only minor slippage with the secondary barrier tested in recent trade (session high 1095). For the short term a posture above 1090/1089 allows for some follow through with the 200 day ema/sma near 1101/1103.
