Brett Baber, an Iowa transplant, has set down deep roots in greater Bangor, adopting the community as his own and dedicating his life to serving the community through his expertise as a litigator and mediator. In an effort to reach the people who most need his assistance as a mediation professional who combines local knowledge and values with decades of legal experience and professional acumen, Baber recently announced his membership in Mediation.com, the fastest-growing online mediation network in the country.

“I always look for ways to give back to my community, either through pro bono efforts, with mediation service or charitable activities,” Baber said. “Clients who hire me to help them find alternative solutions to their disputes in the insurance, personal injury, and employment fields get not just a skilled mediator, but a seasoned trial attorney as well.” He adds that: “I have worked for both plaintiffs and insurance companies which helps me to bring a balanced perspective to my mediation practice.”

The majority of Baber’s current practice is devoted to serving employees who have experienced various forms of employment discrimination, to representation of individuals injured by defective medical products and medications, and to individuals who have suffered a personal injury. Baber has written numerous articles on litigation and insurance topics in the Maine Bar Journal. He has presented on several continuing legal education topics, including several panels regarding employment discrimination claims. Following his tenure as President of the Maine State Bar Association in 2008, he facilitated the creation of the Penobscot County Legal Aid Clinic which continues to provide services to people of limited means.

Baber graduated magna cum laude from the University of Maine Law School and is currently at the firm Lanham Blackwell & Baber. He was awarded The Lew Vafiades Pro Bono Award in 2009 for his work in establishing the legal aid clinic and was named a New England Super Lawyer in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
