FARGO, N.D. -- North Dakota's largest health insurer is laying off 63 workers.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota says six workers were done Monday, with official end dates of Dec. 6. The remaining 57 employees have staggered end dates through next May. All will receive severance packages.
The layoffs equal about 7 percent of the Blues' work force. The company says it will save about $3 million in future salaries, though $875,000 will be paid in one-time severance.
The company's 2011 budget will reduce 120 positions, including the 63 layoffs and 57 positions eliminated through attrition and reorganization.
The health insurance firm says it is working to become more efficient.
