BRIEF: The Buzz: Badger Treats update [The Post-Crescent, Appleton, Wis.]

Jan. 19--An unexpected delay pushed back the opening of Badger Treats, a small neighborhood diner/ice cream shop that's taking the former Lolita's spot at 1025 N. Badger Ave. in Appleton.

Badger Treats' owners, the Weinberger family of Appleton, intended to open their bright red and white restaurant this month.

The opening has been pushed back, possibly by a couple of months, because of ice damage on the roof that caused extensive water damage inside. The business' insurance company and roofer are assessing the situation.

"We're fixing it," said Badger Treats co-owner Kevin Weinberger. "But I don't know if they'll tear the roof off and start over."

Appleton Sign Company installed a new LED sign on Friday. Weinberger will be able to keep customers in the loop with a countdown to opening day on the sign's message board.

The Weinbergers will own and operate the diner. They also own the building.

Lolita's had been in that location in 2011.
