BRIEF: SCSU names new public safety director

Aug. 12--St. Cloud State University has hired a new director of public safety.

Kevin Whitlock will begin the job Monday, a position that reports to the assistant vice president of safety and risk management.

Whitlock will be responsible for the continued development, implementation and administration of St. Cloud State's comprehensive campus safety program. He also will work with university stakeholders and the St. Cloud Police Department on solving and preventing violent crimes on campus and in the neighboring community.

Whitlock graduated from St. Mary's University in Minneapolis with a bachelor's degree in police science. He has served as a park police sergeant for the Three Rivers Park District in Hennepin County for more than 20 years.

Whitlock also served the Center of Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement as an admissions coordinator and program assistant at Hennepin Technical College.

He is close friends with St. Cloud Police Chief Blair Anderson, and said that friendship was one reason he applied for the St. Cloud State job.

Whitlock replaces Miles Heckendorn.
