BRIEF: Macon attorney killed in Monroe County bike accident [The Macon Telegraph]

Oct. 29--A Macon attorney died Sunday evening after he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle in Monroe County.

Walter Leggett, who lived in Monroe County, died a little after 8 p.m. at The Medical Center of Central Georgia, about four hours after he was hit on U.S. 41 near Heritage Drive, said Monroe County Coroner Joey Proctor.

Leggett, 61, was struck by a Lincoln Town Car driven by 78-year-old Ahmad Rasheed of Macon as Leggett attempted to turn left onto Heritage Drive from U.S. 41, according to a Monroe County Sheriff's Office news release.

Leggett, 61, had practiced law for more than 30 years and specialized in estate planning, probate and elder law.

In recent years, he opened his own office on Vineville Avenue.

Leggett graduated from the University of Georgia School of Law, according to his website.

He had been an ordained deacon at Mabel White Memorial Baptist Church and served in the Army National Guard for eight years before his honorable discharge as captain.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane, and his three children, one of whom is a Monroe County deputy.
