BRIEF: Judge: Shaler bottle factory unable to collect insurance [The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review]

April 06--Because managers at a Shaler bottle factory knew that an old furnace eventually would leak molten glass, Kelman Bottles LLC can't force two insurers to cover the damage from a fire caused by the leak, a federal judge ruled.

The company sued United States Fire Insurance Co. of Morristown, N.J., and Continental Casualty Co. of Chicago, because they denied claims from the March 15, 2010, fire caused by 37 tons of molten glass leaking from Furnace No. 2. The fire shut down production at the factory.

U.S. District Judge Arthur Schwab on Wednesday granted the insurers' motions for summary judgment.
