BRIEF: Erie Explosion rout replacement team in regular-season finale

April 28--Another week brought another overmatched replacement opponent for the playoff-bound Erie Explosion.

Afterward, head coach Shawn Liotta acknowledged his team had already turned its focus to its postseason opener against Saginaw even before Sunday's 66-13 blowout of a CIFL affiliate team, the ASI Panthers, before 1,797 fans at Erie Insurance Arena.

ASI filled in for the Detroit Thunder, who have suspended operations. The Panthers came out fast, taking a 7-0 lead on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Jim McCreery to Perry Smith.

The Explosion (8-2) scored the next 59 points on six Aaron Smetanka touchdowns -- five passing and one rushing -- along with two scoring runs by Nate Burney and one by Alfonso Hoggard.
