BRIEF: Beaver County Airport replacing fire-damaged hangar

April 22--CHIPPEWA TWP. -- Beaver County Airport is rebuilding a hangar that was heavily damaged by fire nearly a year ago.

The airport now has 15 hangars after one was destroyed in May 2013, in which two tenants were relocated to an existing hangar, airport director Beth LaValle said. Travelers Insurance is fully covering the cost, she said.

"That's why you pay insurance," LaValle said.

The hangar would provide for 10 single T-hangar units. One unit would accommodate a single aircraft. The airport's hangars currently accommodate 132 nested Ts, LaValle said.

In May, firefighters from about 10 departments responded to a fire, which took several hours to extinguish. The hangar, which was leased by ACES Aviation, was heavily damaged by the fire.

Beaver County Airport Authority approved the request for bids in March.

Sealed bids are due at 3 p.m. Tuesday. As of early Monday afternoon, LaValle said no bids had been received.

Bids for a materials contract and construction, electrical and plumbing contract will be announced Thursday morning.
