Atlanta Car Accident Lawyer Gary Martin Hays Discusses Reports About Bizarre Hit-And-Run Accidents

PR Web

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) November 04, 2013

A pair of unusual hit-and-run accidents should serve as a reminder to all drivers that their decisions before and after a car wreck have serious consequences, according to Gary Martin Hays of The Law Offices of Gary Martin Hays & Associates, a car accident lawyer in Atlanta.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (“Police: DUI driver crashes into pharmacy, then flees to bar next door and resumes drinking,” October 18) reported that one of the accidents occurred in mid-October after an alleged intoxicated driver crashed his car through the front of a pharmacy before fleeing the scene of the accident to a nearby bar to continue drinking.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Georgia State Patrol arrested the alleged drunk driver, who police said was “sitting at the bar drinking a beer.” The article said the driver was charged with driving under the influence.

In another mid-October hit-and-run accident, WSB-TV 2 (“Driver caught on video sleeping, wakes up, crashes into several cars,” October 21) reported that a driver was caught sleeping behind-the-wheel on an Atlanta highway, where he caused a traffic jam. The driver sped off when confronted by a Georgia Department of Transportation worker and caused a five-car crash, the story said.

According to WSB-TV 2, the driver then fled the scene of the accident on foot, jumping a barbed-wire fence before police were able to arrive at the accident scene. No injuries were reported in the accident, according to the news report.

“It’s no secret that drunk drivers or asleep-at-the-wheel drivers can cause serious accidents in Atlanta and throughout Georgia. While it’s fortunate that nobody was seriously injured in these unusual accidents, it’s our hope that the news stories will serve as a reminder that careless decisions have consequences,” said Hays, who represents victims of negligence and families who lost loved ones in accidents. “Drivers need to stay sober and alert at all times.”

Hays said drivers in accidents should always stop, exchange information and help anyone who might be injured. A driver who flees the scene may be leaving an injured person to die, he said.

Hays said that common reasons that drivers choose to flee an accident scene can include driving without a license or insurance, fear of being caught by police on existing charges, or because they’re under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

Hays said personal injury attorneys can help injured victims pursue compensation for their losses. A lawyer also can fight for the victim, hold the negligent individual accountable and send a message that careless behavior will not be tolerated on Georgia roads.
