American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network Announces New Senior Director of Policy

WASHINGTON, Aug. 14 -- The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network issued the following news release:

The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), the advocacy affiliate of the American Cancer Society, has named Kirsten A. Sloan as senior director of policy analysis and legislative support. Sloan will lead ACS CAN's policy work in support of the organization's extensive federal, state and local advocacy agendas.

"Kirsten's extensive experience in health policy, specifically her expertise related to Medicare, Medicaid, private health insurance, quality of care, and delivery system reform, will be a tremendous asset to ACS CAN as we continue to advocate for policies and legislation that benefit patients and families affected by cancer," said Christopher W. Hansen, president of ACS CAN.

In her role, Sloan will lead the team that oversees development of public policy for specific advocacy efforts and legislative and regulatory review and analysis on cancer policy and health policy issues. She will also engage policy representatives at other public interest groups to leverage the latest information in support of laws and policies that help people fight cancer.

Sloan comes to ACS CAN from the National Partnership for Women & Families, where as a vice president she helped manage the organization's health policy portfolio. Before working for the National Partnership, Sloan was Director of Federal Health Issues for AARP where she led advocacy efforts around Medicare and health care. Sloan is a graduate of the University of Washington in Seattle.
