Ambridge Woman Charged With Insurance Fraud

Jan. 04--AMBRIDGE -- The state attorney general's office has filed charges against an Ambridge woman who spent her sister's share of a life insurance settlement, according to court documents.

Jennifer Krummert , 38, of 917 18th St. was charged with insurance fraud and theft by deception on Dec. 21 by special agent James Wabby of the attorney general's insurance fraud section, according to documents filed Dec. 21 in the office of District Judge Andrew Hladio .

Krummert, whose sister lives in Virginia, told Minnesota Life Insurance Co. that she was the only child of Gerald Krummert , who died Aug. 27, 2009, according to the special agent's report. She received a check for $13,109.77 from her father's life insurance policy on Nov. 11, 2009.

When Heidi Krummert Tate , of Roanoke, called Minnesota Life and asked for her portion of her father's life insurance benefits, the insurance company asked Jennifer Krummert to return $6,500.

When confronted by the insurance company, Jennifer Krummert said she was following her father's orders, according to the report.

Minnesota Life paid Heidi Krummert Tate , but never received payment from Jennifer Krummert .

The report said Jennifer Krummert told the insurance company in August that "she had no intention of paying back the funds within the next couple of years." The insurance company asked the attorney general to investigate.

Jennifer Krummert told Wabby that she "somehow misunderstood the question about survivors ... (and) was confused when she listed herself and not her sister" as a beneficiary, according to the report. She told Wabby she had spent the money and could not repay it.

Krummert Tate told Wabby that both women received $25,000 from an additional life insurance policy held by their father.
