Agilix(TM) Unveils New Software Development Kit for Mobilized Applications; Smart Client Platform Facilitates Mobilized Application Development

SAN FRANCISCO - Microsoft Windows Anywhere Conference, Booth 629, Feb. 7
In an effort to assist developers in transcending the limitations of today's web-based and client-server applications for mobile workers, Agilix Labs, Inc., a leading provider of mobilized software and Tablet PC solutions, today unveiled a new software development kit called GoBinder SDK.
GoBinder SDK, which is based on Agilix GoBinder - Agilix's proven mobilized solution for higher education -- is an innovative .NET platform for building mobilized applications for many vertical and horizontal markets, saving significant development time. Mobilized applications allow mobile workers to continue to be productive independent of network connection, compared with Web applications that assume 100% connectivity.
GoBinder SDK offers a complete platform for helping Web developers build smart clients applications for offline support. GoBinder supports user interface (UI), database and synchronization plug-in APIs that enable extensions and enhancements to meet custom requirements. Developers can add their own customized extensions to build mobilized applications. GoBinder is built using the Microsoft .NET framework, enabling developers to build plug- ins through Visual Studio .NET 2003.
"There is a huge need for mobilized applications for today's mobile worker. We've experienced tremendous success and rapid adoption of GoBinder in higher education," said Curt Allen, president & CEO of Agilix. "Because of that success, we've witnessed interest from companies in other markets that want to replicate our mobilized application model for their customers. The GoBinder SDK enables our partners to quickly build off of our solution to deliver a rich, offline client.
"We are excited to see the introduction of the Agilix GoBinder SDK," said Daniel Cane, Vice President, Research & Development, with Blackboard Inc. "We anticipate strong interest in GoBinder from our customers, whose students want to mobilize content from our Blackboard Learning System. With the SDK, Agilix and Blackboard can work together to easily mobilize other areas of the Blackboard Academic Suite. The openness of the SDK will make this type of enhancement straight forward."
The GoBinder SDK outlines these plug-in APIs and features of GoBinder:
-
Rich UI . GoBinder provides a rich user interface, enabling interactive tasks, such as notetaking, document capture and annotation. It delivers a suite of UI plug-ins, such as calendar, task management, and contact database. It supports an electronic binder/folder metaphor for organizing content. GoBinder provides the ability to organize documents, digital notes, images, hyperlinks and more by project, and supports ink note-taking for the Tablet PC. New UI screens, dialogs, menu items, and other plug-ins can be added through the UI Manager APIs.
-
GoBinder database. The GoBinder database is designed for handling large text, digital ink, rich media, HTML, PDF, audio, video, and other objects that are typically not well suited for SQL databases. Any Windows application file can be stored natively in the database along with an ePrint image. The image can be annotated using a keyboard or ink. Images can also be sent to other users with annotation. A fast search engine allows users to rapidly locate ink or text within notes, imported documents, HTML and PDFs through full text indexing. The GoBinder database requires very little overhead, and is very scalable. New data objects can be added using the Data Manager APIs.
-
Mobile Manager. The Mobile Manager handles all data synchronization management and works through one or more sync providers. Data interchange is handled in background, and is continuous until complete or until a network connection is lost. When a connection is re-established, synchronization automatically starts up where it left off. The data manager gracefully handles network connection disruptions, and includes powerful conflict resolution handling. A sync provider has the ability to send only new or changed information, and erase deleted data. The user can be notified of all data changes.
-
Sync providers. Sync providers are provided for local device sync to Outlook and Palm OS devices. Remote providers include Exchange and Blackboard. An XML Web Services provider is supplied for integration with enterprise and other applications that support a Services-Oriented Architecture. Sync plug-in APIs allow adding custom sync providers to integrate with any host environment. Sync providers can also be configured to support data transformation between the host source and the local GoBinder database. Multiple sync providers can be configured to run concurrently to support integration with multiple
sources, such as Websites, electronic content databases, RSS feeds, enterprise applications and other data sources.
There are many markets well-suited for the Agilix Mobilized Software Platform. Examples include:
-
Medical/healthcare -- EMR applications are enhancing patient office visits, however, there is a need for off-line data when a physician or nurse visits patients in the hospital.
-
Insurance -- claims inspectors collect data and make insurance adjustments on the road. Empowering them with up-to-date corporate policy, rate and other information allows them to be more effective. Any data collected in the field can be automatically feed to corporate servers when the user reconnects.
-
Legal -- Providing legal professionals with off-line access to case law, trial research, public records and more when they are working a case ensure access to the right information at the right time, including in the courtroom.
-
Finanical -- Individual CPAs with access to up-to-date tax law, regulatory information, and other accounting best practices information can be more effective when at customer sites, especially in dealing with issues such as Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
Availability
A tech preview of the GoBinder SDK is available now, with availability scheduled for later this year. For more information on GoBinder SDK or to inquire about participating in the beta testing program, contact Agilix at [email protected] or 801-932-1220.
