Aetna Selected to Supply Medicare Advantage HMO Plans to Retired State Employees in Illinois

Aetna announced that it has been selected by the Illinois Department of Central Management Services to provide Medicare Advantage HMO plans to retired state employees.

According to a release, Aetna will be offering the Coventry Advantra Medicare Advantage HMO, which is administered by Coventry Health Care of Illinois, in 47 counties across the state. Aetna will be one of two health plans providing Medicare Advantage HMO plans. The contract takes effect February 1, 2014. Coventry became a member of the Aetna family of companies earlier this year.

Medicare Advantage plans offer extra benefits not covered under Original Medicare and are designed to provide members coverage alternatives. The Coventry Medicare Advantage plans offer several value-added services, including Silver Sneakers fitness club.

State of Illinois retirees are reminded that they must enroll online or complete and return an open enrollment form by December 13, to be covered by one of the new Medicare Advantage plans for 2014.
