AXA Equitable Announces Three Senior Management Appointments
AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company announced that Dave Hattem has been elected general counsel; Anthony Recine has been elected deputy general counsel; and Carol Macaluso has been elected senior vice president. The appointments were confirmed during a Board of Directors meeting held yesterday afternoon.
"These appointments recognize that strong leadership in the legal and accounting functions is integral to the success of any organization, but critical to the success of a financial services company operating in a complex and highly regulated industry," said Christopher M. "Kip" Condron, chairman and chief executive officer of AXA Equitable.
Dave Hattem is senior vice president and now has management responsibility for the Law Department. He joined the company in 1994 and served as deputy general counsel since 2004. Mr. Hattem has had a variety of management roles, including head of the litigation, employment and customer relations practice group, and most recently, co-manager of the Corporate, Investment and Benefits practice group. In addition, he previously had oversight responsibility for the National Compliance Office. Prior to joining AXA Equitable, he spent nine years with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York where he also held a number of supervisory positions, including Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division. Mr. Hattem reports to Richard V. Silver, senior executive vice president, chief administrative officer and chief legal officer.
Anthony Recine is senior vice president and the company's chief compliance officer. He is responsible for managing the National Compliance Office, which monitors the activities and compliance infrastructure of the company's broker-dealers, registered investment advisors and registered representatives. He now assumes responsibility for overseeing the administration of the company's Law Department. Mr. Recine joined AXA Equitable in 2004 as chief compliance officer and associate general counsel. He began his career in 1979 as an attorney with MONY Life Insurance Company, later managing the administration of the firm's law department and supervising the litigation, real estate and employment law groups. Mr. Recine reports to Mr. Hattem.
Carol Macaluso is responsible for overseeing the insurance accounting functions that support the company's life and annuity products; the financial information management function that is responsible for the general ledger and related financial information systems; companywide disbursement operations; HR accounting; and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance. Prior to joining AXA Equitable in 2004, Ms. Macaluso was a vice president for MONY Life Insurance Company in the annuity division of the office of the chief financial officer. Before joining MONY in 1997, she was a manager in the Insurance Audit Practice at Coopers & Lybrand, now PricewaterhouseCoopers. Ms. Macaluso reports to Al Fenichel, senior vice president and chief accounting officer.
