ACE Appoints Andrew Hurley Senior Vice President, Corporate Risk Segment, and Karen Sothern Regional Executive Officer, New York Region

• Appointments Advance ACE USA’s National and Regional Operations

PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- ACE Group today announced two executive appointments in its regional operations to support ACE’s expansion in key markets in the U.S., particularly in the upper middle market segment, which is comprised of organizations that generate between $25M and $250M in revenue:

  • Andrew Hurley has been named Senior Vice President of the Corporate Risk Segment for ACE USA. In this newly-created position, Mr. Hurley will have national responsibility for directing ACE’s distribution, service and underwriting initiatives targeted to its Corporate Risk segment, which caters to upper middle market companies. He will oversee a nationwide network of Corporate Risk professionals who will support brokers with specialty solutions from ACE’s broad insurance portfolio, from excess casualty to cyber to multinational travel and accident programs.
  • Karen Sothern has been appointed Regional Executive Officer for New York. In this role, Ms. Sothern will be responsible for setting and driving the overall strategic direction for the New York region, and overseeing regional production plans, distribution, product sales, marketing, and producer management.

Chris Maleno, Division President of ACE USA, stated: “At ACE, cultivating productive relationships with brokers and clients is our top priority. We continuously invest in the products, technologies, and talent to provide a high level of service and expertise for our target markets. Both Andrew and Karen represent the depth of ACE’s leadership talent. They possess insight into the challenges our clients face, which are complex and diverse, making them exceptionally qualified for their new roles.”

Mr. Hurley, who brings nearly 25 years of sales and underwriting industry experience, primarily in commercial lines, joined ACE in 2006, and most recently served as Regional Executive Officer for the New York market. He previously held several underwriting and regional leadership positions at ACE, including serving as Branch Manager of the company’s Northern New Jersey office, and as Corporate Risk Segment Leader for its New York office. Mr. Hurley will continue to report to John Alfieri, Division President, ACE USA Regional Operations.

Ms. Sothern brings more than 30 years of underwriting leadership, business development, client executive experience, and regional territory management to her role. Ms. Sothern most recently served as Chief Culture Officer for ACE Group, where she helped enculturate ACE’s underwriting practices and behaviors among newly-acquired companies around the world. This culture integration work has been embedded into ACE’s businesses globally and will now be led by the Regional leaders as acquisitions occur. Prior to this, Ms. Sothern served as Regional Executive Officer of the Northeast region for ACE USA. Ms. Sothern will report to Mr. Alfieri in her new role.
