4th Street to be closed because of needed work

July 16--LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. -- Orange cones, 'road closed' signs, and construction equipment are a familiar sight in the London area this summer and two more streets will be closed for the next four weeks.

In order to construct a turn lane to the new Laurel County Career and Readiness Center, the section of Fourth Street (Ky. 80) between Ky. 472 and TLC Lane will be closed on Monday, July 14. The construction is scheduled for completion by Aug. 13, although a press release from Les Dixon, Office of Public Affairs for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, states that the work is scheduled on a tentative basis and may change due to weather conditions or other unforeseen factors.

Local access traffic will be maintained during the construction work; however, Transportation officials ask that motorists be aware of the work zone and to use safe driving habits when traveling through the area.

Wendell Way, which runs from Microtel and behind the Golden Corral parking lot, will also be closing on Monday. According to London City Police Risk Management Officer Rick Cochrane, that work is expected to last a minimum of 90 days. Cochrane said the road work is to replacement pipe in the flood zone area of Fifth Street.

"The front entrance to Huddle House will be closed off, so we are telling people to turn into the Wal-Mart intersection and go in the back way to Huddle House," Cochrane said.
