3 people hurt in single-car accident [The Moultrie Observer, Ga.]

Oct. 02--MOULTRIE -- Three people, including a 3-year-old girl, were treated for injuries sustained in a Tuesday morning single-vehicle crash.

A man taken to Colquitt Regional Medical Center left the hospital after he removed a neck collar twice, walked around the emergency room and demanded a different pain medication than the one prescribed, Moultrie police said.

Georgia State Patrol reports said that Toni Roberts, 26, of Meigs was driving east at about 7:30 a.m. in the 6200 block of Lower Meigs Road when the 1996 Ford Taurus left the roadway.

After driving onto the south shoulder, the car struck a mail box, struck and traveled across a driveway culvert and then hit a utility pole with enough force to snap it at the ground, the reports said. The car came to a rest facing west.

Toni Roberts was charged with failure to maintain lane and no proof of insurance, and a blood-alcohol test is pending.

She, Russell Roberts, 33, of Norman Park and Carolina Roberts, 3, were all treated and released a Colquitt Regional spokeswoman said Wednesday.

Moultrie Police Department reports said that emergency room staff reported that Russell Roberts got off a back board and removed the neck collar, then began walking around. When taken back to his room and told he would be given pain medication, he told employees that he was tolerant to morphine and needed another pain medication.

A short time later Russell Roberts took the neck collar off and walked back into the emergency room. The hospital reported that when given a prescription for pain medication he ripped it up and "began to throw a tantrum."

He was given discharge instructions at that time and he left.

Russell Roberts initiated police involvement, reporting that he was assaulted by a male nurse. He told police that he had been released from the emergency room and was trying to visit his wife when the nurse grabbed him by the upper arm and took him back to his room.

He said when he tried to leave again the nurse again grabbed his arm again.
