3 cars damaged in crashes along icy stretch of Route 910 in Harmar

Dec. 20--Two vehicles were heavily damaged Friday morning in a head-on crash along an icy stretch of Route 910 in Harmar, but the two drivers involved managed to walk away unhurt, Harmar police said.

Also damaged in the crash was an empty third vehicle that had been disabled on the side of the road from an earlier crash, police said.

The head-on crash happened around 9 a.m.

A Chevrolet pickup driven by Brian Donovan, 22, of Indiana Township, spun out and went across the center-line before slamming into an oncoming SUV, according to Harmar police Chief Jason Domeratz.

"It was a sheet of ice," Donovan said after the crash.

Police identified the driver of the Subaru SUV as Rachel Pazman, 39, of Oakmont. She wasn't available for comment.

"No one was hurt. It's amazing," Harmar police Lt. Otto Gaal said.

The collision pushed the SUV into a disabled Ford Mustang on the side of the road. Domeratz said that car had been involved in a one-car crash around 8:45 a.m.

"I was driving to work and hot a patch of ice," said the car's driver, Josh Moore of Indiana Township.

Moore said his car "fish-tailed and when I tapped my brakes and I shot out like a rocket. Fortunately, no one was coming in the other lanes. I hit nose-first into the guardrail."

A coworker had taken Moore home so he could call an insurance company. He learned before returning that his car had been involved in a second accident after his girlfriend called when she saw the three wrecked cars, including Moore's, as she drove to work.
