How to have a breakthrough in 2023

By Lloyd Lofton

As 2022 comes to an end, have you sometimes felt you were in a tough situation?

Lloyd Lofton

Maybe as the year ends, you’re in a tough situation right now?

Whether you need to decide if you’re going to buy leads, call leads or can't make up your mind about your next step — sometimes it seems as though the best solution is to wait until it feels right.

Kind of like “let it sort itself out,” so to speak.

Doing nothing

Doing nothing hasn’t moved your business where you wanted it to be, has it?

In fact, doing nothing has meant letting go of the steering wheel of your business — which is like leaving your passengers or the potholes to take over.

Maybe you’ve felt that you’ve missed out on opportunities due to lack of self-confidence?

That’s an affliction most salespeople have.

Most salespeople manage their business hindered by anxieties, worries, self-doubts and unwanted habits — characteristics we've come to accept as “normal.”

What if there was one simple thing you could do to overcome this and help you reach your true potential?

It's exciting to think about, right?

When you start feeling unwanted stress and anxiety — what do you do? Try to think about something else, don’t you? Take deep breaths? I get it, and it can be scary.

It’s easy to feel that if nothing ever scares you, success is easy, right?

You imagine never feeling hesitant, shy or nervous. You just act. However, when you don't act, it is probably because of fear, right?

For example, if you can't talk about money with people, you may have money problems. Whenever you need to ask for money or negotiate financial terms, you freeze.

Our fears tend to block our communication. Confronting a fear can be tough, but the reward is enormous. Succeeding, despite a fear, means you have done something you could not do before.

And that is real success, isn’t it?

Recognizing that fear

When you are about to go into an appointment, do you think:

  • “Will they like my company?”
  • “Will they want my product?”
  • “Will my price be competitive?”

Or do you think:

  • “Will I succeed?”
  • “Will I make money doing this?”
  • “Can I do this?”
  • “Will I make it?”

Which way do you think most salespeople think? We doubt ourselves, don’t we?

One thing

If there were a magic system, everybody would use it. And if everybody used it, then there wouldn’t be a magic system.

Successful athletes visualize victory before they even step out onto the playing field. They imagine themselves making the basket, catching the ball, scoring the goal or finishing first. They play this “imaginary video” repeatedly in their minds until their mind accepts it as reality. When game time finally arrives, they are cool, confident and focused. They are determined to achieve victory and they know just how to do it.

And what is that one thing?

It’s making a commitment, something that strikes at the heart of who you are and what you want for you family, your clients and most importantly, you!

So, instead of making a New Year’s resolution, which you won’t keep (like all of us), make a commitment you will keep!

And I’ll help you out.

It’s even written out for you. All you must do is print, sign and date it, and hang it up where you’ll see it every single day in 2023, and who knows who you will become and what you’ll accomplish in 2023?

Here it is.

I commit

  • To reduce any distractions - every day!
  • To watch my excuses to not act - every day!
  • To demonstrate commitment to prospecting where I pay, where I play and where I pray - every day!
  • To practice my communication skills – every day!
  • To practice handling objections – every day!
  • To track my results based on the commitments I make – every day!
  • To eat healthy – every day!
  • To get enough sleep – every night!
  • To take quality family time with no distractions – every day!

I am committed to the above to promote personal and business growth, and I understand and agree that if I fail to keep my commitments, my manager, spouse or significant other will take this into consideration when placing future belief and confidence in me.

(Print your name as it appears on your pay/commission check.)
