5 Tips For Maximizing Your Online Business
By Ben Peetermans
If you want to create an online insurance or financial services business, you need to know how to give it the best chance of success.
Here are five tips that can assist in taking your online business to the next level, no matter the size of your startup budget.
1. Be trustworthy
Building a reputation based on trust can enhance your business, but how can you begin to build that all-important client trust?
Always include your phone number and physical location (if you have one) on your website. This shows that you are willing and open to communication.
Display logos or graphics that clients will recognize and trust. Examples of these would be logos from service providers such as the Better Business Bureau, or SSL certificate providers such as Symantec or Digicert. When an SSL certificate is installed on your domain, your website connection will be secure. Not only does this give you two signs of being trustworthy (the SSL seal as well as the secure connection), it may help your overall ranking in search engines as well.
Show open and/or closed reviews. It is important to gather reviews and ask your customers to add them to both open and closed review sites. These can then be reproduced on your website. This will assist prospects when it comes to making a decision.
2. Invest in publicity
Publicity can be expensive but it doesn’t need to be. Press releases are a great way to gain exposure for your business and there are dozens of press release websites available. Some of these will charge a small fee but some do not.
3. Stay in touch with your clients
Collect your customers’ contact details and then stay in touch. Send them a birthday card in the mail or email them at New Year’s. All of these little touches can lead to one of the best forms of advertisement: word of mouth.
4. Invest in a professional website
Your website is your online business so give it the professional consideration it deserves. Your ideal website must have an engaging design. This is your storefront, and the design is the first thing that potential customers will see. The site also must have relevant, valuable and comprehensive content, as well as be easy to navigate.
Your site also must be optimized for speed by using quality hosting and possibly reducing file size. This is important because images that are not optimized could add a few seconds to the time it takes for the site to load.
Offer an online insurance quote engine to enable prospects to get instant access to the numbers they need to make a decision.
5. Narrow down your target audience
Knowing who you want as your customers can be invaluable when it comes to creating a successful online business. By using appropriate keywords that are relevant to your target audience, you can increase your visibility and potential search engine optimization (SEO) placement.
For example, if you specialize in life insurance for seniors in Florida, then optimize those words in your content. Narrowing down a potential target audience from simply “life insurance in America” to “life insurance for seniors in Florida” can greatly assist in reducing your competition.
By taking these five pieces of advice, you can boost your online business and increase your overall chance of success.
