Cyberlaw Expert Parry Aftab Talks Cyberbullying and Online Student Safety at the Core of Education

Parry Aftab, a leading expert in the prevention of cyberbullying talked with Dr. Rod Berger about how we can protect kids from some of the dangers that exist in our digital world on the Core of Education. Aftab authored the first Internet safety book in the world, "A Parents Guide to the Internet," and both founded and runs the world's oldest and largest cybersafety charity, WiredSafety, as an unpaid volunteer.

Dr. Berger asked Aftab about her work, which started 15 years ago as what was supposed to be a one-year project to break up a child pornography ring. They discuss online safety, privacy, school and public policy, Aftab's $1.5 million toolkit that is available for free to any school, and the unique danger associated with apps on mobile devices.

"Because they work on mobile devices that have multiple capabilities, they know where we are, they know what we are doing, they know how fast we are going, they know where we were last, and who we know," Aftab says about apps. "These technologies tap into our mobile devices to get things about us in ways we've never thought of, and that's a problem."
