Yellowstone County residents urged to buy flood insurance
According to information from YCPW, most insurance plans, including homeowners, commercial and renters, generally does not cover flood damage. Supplemental flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program can be purchased through local insurance agents. The policy is usually good for one year. Prices vary based on the flood risk associated with a home's location. Contents to homes and commercial buildings can be covered for additional premium.
From 20 to 25 percent of all flood claims occur outside high-risk areas.
