Woman charged with aggravated DUI in Lower Wacker crash that killed her 23-month-old daughter

Jan. 14--A woman who caused a crash on Lower Wacker Drive that left her young daughter dead had no driver's license, no insurance and had a combination of drugs and alcohol in her system at the time of the crash, prosecutors said Sunday.

Adreannia Donaldson, 29, of the 7900 block of South Bishop Street, was charged with felony aggravated DUI and given four traffic citations: failure to yield right of way, violation of child restraint law, driving an uninsured motor vehicle and having no driver's license, said Officer Jennifer Bryk, a police spokeswoman.

At the Leighton Criminal Court Building, a judge ordered Donaldson held on $20,000 bail and barred her from driving in connection with the Saturday crash at 77 W. Lower Wacker Drive that claimed her 23-month-old daughter.

The 29-year-old was behind the wheel of a 2004 Mazda sedan that was traveling west in the first block of West Lower Wacker when it turned to head east around 1 a.m. and was struck by an SUV traveling east with the green light, police said. The Mazda then slammed into a wall.

Donaldson -- who had never been issued a driver's license -- tried to make an improper left turn from Lower Wacker Drive on to Garvey Court, when the westbound vehicle struck hers, prosecutors said in court. The impact ejected Donaldson's daughter from the vehicle, authorities said. The child, Amaria Glenn, was seated in the rear and wasn't in a child seat, though she had been wearing a seat belt, prosecutors said.

Witnesses from the other vehicle and construction workers nearby ran to aid and saw Donaldson in the driver's seat, authorities said.

Amaria, of the 7900 block of South Bishop Street in the Gresham neighborhood, was pronounced dead at 1:44 a.m. at Lurie Children's Hospital, the Cook County medical examiner's office said. An autopsy Saturday determined she died of multiple blunt force injuries from the crash, and her death was ruled an accident.

At Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Donaldson's toxicology screen showed that her blood alcohol content was .083 percent, and that she had cocaine, cannabis and amphetamine in her system, Assistant State's Attorney Britt Steinberg said.
