Who needs a Constitution?

The Greenwich Time

Who needs a Constitution?

Dear editor,

Our president insults Federal Reserve Bank Chair Jerome Powell 10 days before the Federal Open Market Committee meeting. Further says he could fire the chairman, but won't, when there are clear laws stating he can't.

By early July, I expect he will insult some Supreme Court justices, threatening impeachment.

Further, I expect he might attempt the steal the 2026 election using illegal means. If successful, he will attempt to steal the 2028 election or even call it off.

Why? Because that's what autocrats do on their way to dictatorships (Examples: Hungary and Turkey). It's time we start work on a free and fair 2026 election.

Constitutional? Recent news implies it doesn't seem to bother our president.

Limit their terms

Connecticut is the poster child for term limits, with U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy. Murphy is like all politicians on both sides of the aisle. He's all about gun control -- as long as the shooter and/or victims fit his political narrative. Black on Black shootings. Kansas City parade shooting where kids were shot, you won't hear a peep from him. Perfect example of why people are sick and don't trust politicians. Keep walking and don't come back.

Climb aboard the peace train

The United States and China need to be working together to reduce the threat of nuclear war, on confronting the danger of accelerated climate change, on regulating artificial intelligence and on global public health issues. These are issues involving the survival of civilization. Our military build up in the far east, the belligerent statements of Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and the trade wars launched by President Donald Trump all serve to undermine this cooperation, that is so critical to our survival.

The recent actions of President Trump in moving us out of the Climate Accords and the World Health organization moves us in the wrong direction . Congress needs speak out for restoring international cooperation with the world and with China. Our survival lies with international cooperation , which includes working with China. Let's get on the peace train together, not the train wreck of military build up and war preparation.

Jones Act debate

Regarding the letter by Colin Grabow of the Cato Institute, "National Security is another reason to scuttle the Jones Act," as he describes it the Jones Act seems to be like a tariff. Its intent is protection of a domestic industry, ship building. Grabow goes on to say that "insulated from competition ... U.S. shipbuilders charge prices several times that of their foreign counterparts for equivalent vessels. "This has historically been the Republican Party's argument against tariffs, until Trump imposed them. Grabow is returning to the Republican Party's roots calling for repeal of the Jones Act (a tariff). Meanwhile Grabow says that Joe Courtney, a Democrat, is for keeping the Jones Act.

Reckoning for broken laws

In the month of May alone, President Donald Trump lost more than 90% of cases against him, including by many Republican appointed judges. Among other things, he is accused of sidestepping the constitution by denying illegal aliens due process, something that even the late arch-conservative Justice Antonin Scalia held is wrong.

If at some point enough of America realizes the full impact of our laws being broken, there may come a reckoning. That would be when a plethora of people in the Trump circle are caught committing enough blatantly illegal acts that their arrest is inevitable. I just hope for their sake, and for the sake of our country that they are not denied that same aforementioned due process, because so many of us are old enough to remember when that was the law of our land.
