WealthTrust Arizona Partner, Paul Ahern, Continues Community Involvement with Make-A-Wish® Foundation

PR Newswire iReach

PHOENIX, July 22, 2015 /PRNewswire-iReach/ --  WealthTrust Arizona, a provider of wealth management and estate planning solutions, announced Partner Paul Ahern has completed his fourth year supporting the Make-A-Wish® Foundation, one of the world's leading children's charities. Ahern began his association with the Foundation by volunteering at fundraising events for the Arizona Chapter. He then became a "wish granter" working directly with children and their families to help ensure their wishes come true. Both these experiences allowed Ahern to better understand how the charity works.

"I considered a few different charities before deciding to devote my time to Make-A-Wish four years ago," said Paul Ahern, a founding partner of WealthTrust Arizona. "I liked the fact that the Foundation started in Arizona originally and would allow me to work directly with children.

"Having three kids of my own, I can't imagine what these families go through when a child suffers a life-threatening condition," continued Ahern. "I wanted to help after hearing first-hand the stories of some kids who made a miraculous recovery after having their wish granted. It was as though their spirits were so lifted that a physical and mental change literally saved their lives."

According to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the majority of health professionals surveyed in a 2011 U.S. study of wish impact believe a wish-come-true has positive impacts on a child's health.  The children say wishes give them renewed strength to fight their illness and the parents feel these experiences help strengthen the entire family.

Ahern has granted several wishes during his tenure with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. His first wish involved an eight-year-old boy with leukemia who wanted to take his family to Hawaii. Ahern helped make this boy's love of travel and being by the ocean become a reality. According to Ahern, wishes can take weeks, months or even more than a year to accomplish.

"We couldn't be more proud of Paul and his ongoing support of the remarkable Make-A-Wish Foundation," said Todd Stoa, President of WealthTrust LLC. "By volunteering regularly with one of the world's leading children's charities, Paul exemplifies our organization's commitment to community involvement."

Based in Phoenix, Arizona, Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. The Foundation serves children in every community in the United States and its territories. More than 27,000 volunteers help the charity grant a wish every 37 minutes. Since its inception in 1980, Make-A-Wish has granted over 254,000 wishes.

As the founding chapter, Make-A-Wish Arizona continues to be a trailblazer. The chapter granted a record 330 wishes in fiscal year 2014. Interested parties can learn more about the Make-A-Wish Foundation at www.wish.org or www.arizona.wish.org.
