Apr. 27—SANDERSVILLE, Ga. — A 62-year-old Washington County man is dead following injuries he sustained in a double-wide mobile home fire Saturday night, local and state authorities say.
The victim was identified as Bobby Charles McDonald, according to a press release from the Georgia Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire Office in Atlanta.
Firefighters with the Sandersville Fire Department discovered McDonald's body near a rear door as they were working to extinguish the blaze that happened shortly after 9 p.m. on Sunhill Road.
"Life-saving measures were performed on scene, but he did not survive his injuries," according to prepared statement from State Insurance Commissioner John F. King.
The cause of the fatal fire remains under investigation by the state fire marshal's unit, as well as the Sandersville Fire Deparrment, Sandersville Police Department, Washington County Sheriff's Office and Washington County Coroner's Office.
An autopsy will be performed on the body of the victim sometime this week at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Laboratory in Decatur. The autopsy will determine exactly how McDonald met his death.
He was the 51st person to die from injuries associated with a fire this year in Georgia.
