U.S. Women’s Chamber of Commerce Condemns Senate Healthcare Bill as Bad for Small Business and Communities, Devastating for Women and Families

This bill - really a tax bill aimed at a massive redistribution of wealth, if enacted, would destruct the healthcare marketplace like a wrecking ball leaving millions of self-employed individuals without coverage and substantially suppressing the creation of new venture businesses in America. The result will mean: millions more Americans will be without health coverage - which will drive up health costs; fewer new businesses will be created - which will result in fewer jobs created; and communities and families will be left struggling with the healthcare costs of elders, loss of guaranteed pre-existing condition coverage and loss of basic care requirements.

"Women and business owners, who were promised by candidate Trump that Medicaid would not be touched and promised that healthcare reforms would bring down costs, instead, will be stripped of healthcare certainty and cost containment for themselves, their employees and their families - all so that the Republican Congress can redistribute wealth into the pockets of the rich," states Margot Dorfman, CEO of the U.S. Women's Chamber of Commerce.

"There are a number of changes needed and available to improve upon Obamacare, lower costs and restore greater free market values without throwing the healthcare marketplace into chaos and disrupting entrepreneurial activity, job creation and affordable access to quality healthcare for all Americans," continues Dorfman. "Unfortunately, instead of improving upon healthcare, the Republican Congress has chosen disruption, destruction, and devastation. Neither the House nor Senate bills address the healthcare marketplace in a reasonable way that will benefit all Americans. The U.S. Women's Chamber of Commerce calls upon the Republican Congress and President Trump to change course and pursue a positive plan for the future."
