Tyler Bowen is a car salesman who wants to see the world

Pioneer, The (Big Rapids, MI)

Tyler Bowen, 27, lives in Midland with his dog, Millie, a one-year-old Australian Shepherd. Tyler's a graduate of South Lyon East High School and Northwood University where he earned a bachelor's in insurance risk management.

How long have you lived in Midland and what brought you here?

Since I started going to school here in 2014 (at Northwood). Played baseball there for four years.

What is your profession and why?

As soon as I graduated, one of my teachers, Bonnie Johnson-Heyward, hired me at her insurance agency, General Agency in Mount Pleasant. So, I did that for two years, then I decided to do something else. I have now worked at Feeny Chrysler, for three and a half years. I sell cars. I love a lot of things about that. I love meeting people from all different walks of life. One day, you can be selling a 100-thousand-dollar car, and the next, a three-thousand-dollar car. It's very interesting hearing everybody's stories and helping them find the car of their dreams. You also get to drive cool cars all day.

What are some of your interests and hobbies?

Big softball guy, play a lot of softball, both fast pitch and slo-pitch. Also do modified. I have a pontoon boat, Anytime I get a day off, I love getting out on the water. Take Millie with me. She's a water dog. She loves playing fetch and swimming. That's her favorite things to do. I do love traveling as well. I just got back from vacation. I've now been to 11 different countries. Big thing for me is to see the whole world. My goal is to see all seven continents one day.

What are your favorite things to do in Midland?

Softball is big in Midland. Disc golf, regular golf. Hanging out down by the Tridge. The Tridge is beautiful. And volleyball, it's fun.

What do you enjoy about living in Midland?

I love the four seasons that Michigan has. I love that Midland's a good mixture between city and rural. It's not downtown New York City but it's not absolutely rural, not the middle of nowhere. The people of Midland are great people. It's a family-oriented city.

What is a message you'd like to give the community?

Back in 2020, when the flood hit, how everyone came together, that was so inspiring to me. Everybody was helping everybody. That was really cool to see. I can't see every community doing that. Keep that same energy, keep helping each other out and we can all keep growing together to make Midland the best place to live.
