Trial scheduled for Tabor man charged in connection to Delmont apartment fire

March 13--DELMONT -- A jury trial has been scheduled for a Tabor man accused of aiding the start of a fire that destroyed a Delmont apartment complex in 2016.

Alvin Andersen, 76, is accused of asking Brian Good to set the complex on fire and providing containers of gasoline to aid Good. Andersen, the apartment's manager, allegedly committed the crime to collect insurance money for the loss, according to court documents.

He pleaded not guilty last week and a jury trial is scheduled for three days in November.

Good, of Aubrey, Texas, formerly of Delmont, started the Feb. 21, 2016, fire that destroyed the four-unit apartment complex at 104 S. Wilson St. in Delmont. He was arrested eight months later, in October 2016, in Texas and later sentenced to six years in prison.

Good, who lived in Unit 4, where the fire started, received treatment for burns "for some time" following the fire, Parkhurst said, but nobody else was injured. The building was deemed a total loss and demolished by the city of Delmont.

Andersen is charged with aiding and abetting first-degree arson, a Class 2 felony; conspiracy to commit first-degree arson, a Class 3 felony; aiding and abetting second-degree arson, a Class 4 felony; and conspiracy to commit second-degree arson, a Class 5 felony. If convicted of all charges, Andersen could face up to 55 years imprisonment and a $110,000 fine.
