Jan. 19, 1928: A Hayward High School debate team, composed of Vernon Wodbeck, Lois Nelson and James Ryder, captain, will debate a team from the State Teacher's College of River Falls on the question: "Resolved: That Wisconsin enact a law requiring all automobile owners of the state to take out liability insurance to the extent of $5,000, unless they can furnish and maintain evidence of ability to respond to damages to the extent of $5,000."

Basket ball fans of this city who attended the game between the Hayward High and Washburn High teams at the Auditorium here Tuesday evening, Jan. 17, witnessed the fastest game played in many years,

Through the kindness of Mr. Wittwer, the Tamakwa Camp Fire Girls enjoyed a sleigh ride Thursday evening. After a pleasant drive in the country they returned to the school house and had lunch. They were accompanied by Misses Klein, Bloomingquist and Thomas. The girls of the party were Emma Cheer, Bessie Menzie, Catherine Karibolis; Lillian Olson; Thelma McClaine; Eunice Johnson; Elizabeth Peters; Missie Ryder; Helen Johnson; June Hickerson; Antonia Kuta and Doris Hunnicut.

75 years ago

Jan. 8, 1948: A Youth for Christ rally will be held in the Winter High School auditorium Saturday evening, Jan. 10 at 8 o'clock. Rev. Arvid Nyquist of Chippewa Falls all be the principal speaker. Rev. Nyquist is well known in the Eau Claire district, being pastor of the Christian Gospel Chapel of Chippewa Fals for a number of years, and he has broadcast from the Eau Claire radio station.

The fight against infantile paralysis has occupied the interest of medical scientists since the disease was first identified many years ago. Jack Zufall of this city was one of the unfortunate in having the disease, and to aid in the continuance of this first, he opened the Sawyer County March of Dimes with a $100 contribution.

Mrs. E.L. Erickson and daughter Eunice of Minneapolis are visiting at the home of Mrs. Erickson's daughter, Mrs. Alfred Olson and family. Mrs. Erickson is recuperating after a recent operation.

60 years ago

Dec. 27, 1962: Hayward Area Memorial Hospital has received a check from the Lake Superior District Power Company from the Lake Superior District Power Company headquartered in Ashland, in remember of Christmas season.

A team of specialists from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will arrive in Sawyer County soon to begin marking selected building as public fallout shelters. The apartment of Defense recently completed a nationwide survey designed to determine which buildings can provide protection from deadly radioactive fallout in the event of enemy attack.

The Namekagon Beavers 4-H Club held a Hawaiian Christmas Party in honor of Mrs. Johanna Thannum for her 20 years of service to the Namekagon Beavers 4-H Club and the Community.

Dec. 28, 1972: Lucky will be the first lad or lassie to be born at the Hayward Memorial Hospital in 1973, for as in past years, local merchants have banded together to sponsor, in cooperation with The Record, the annual 1st baby contest to herald the arrive of "our first born" at the local hospital

According to the Reverend Louis Natzke and the Reverend Arthur Vorhes, arrangements have been compiled for the appears of the Gustavus Choir of St. Peter, Minnesota, at First Lutheran Church in Hayward on Monday, February 5, at 7:30 p.m.

Troop 70 has been very active since is beginning March when Mr. Allen Raskie took over as scoutmaster.

Jan. 5, 198: With a 90-day "escape hatch" and a deed transfer and insurance expense disclaimer, the Hayward City Council agreed with a 7-0 vote Thursday, Dec. 30, to accept the deeds to the 28-acre Hayward Sports Center land and structures, thereby excempting the sport center board (Hayward Area Youth Hockey Association) from the 1983 property taxation.

Connor Louis Neste arrived at 7:24 am. New Year's Day to become the first baby of the year at Hayward Area Memorial Hospital. The son of Larry and Diane Neste of Hayward, Conner weight 7 pounds, 8 ounces and was 19 1/2 inches long, and his mother reported "he was right on time."

School Lunch menu Monday, Jan. 10: Veal patties on a school made bun, buttered broccoli or sliced carrots, pickles, associated fruit, 1/2 pint. milk.
