Thomas Sabatino Joins Aetna as Executive Vice President and General Counsel

By a News Reporter-Staff News Editor at Pharma Business Week -- Aetna (NYSE:AET) announced that Thomas J. Sabatino, Jr., has been named executive vice president and general counsel, effective April 25. Sabatino also will join Aetna's Executive Committee, the company's senior-most leadership team (see also Aetna).

Sabatino joins Aetna from Hertz Global Holdings, Inc., where he served most recently as senior executive vice president, chief administrative officer and general counsel. He has also held leadership positions at Walgreen Co., United Airlines, Schering-Plough Corporation, and Baxter International Inc.

"Tom's experience, which includes executive roles with other premier brands in the health care space, makes him an excellent fit for this leadership role," said Mark T. Sabatino succeeds William J. Casazza, who will continue to serve as a strategic advisor to Aetna in connection with the company's pending acquisition of Humana. Casazza will retire upon the close of the transaction. Casazza has served Aetna for 24 years, and he has been executive vice president and general counsel since 2005. He has helped to drive the company toward its mission of building a healthier world through his business-driven legal advice and deep commitment to compliance and ethics. As a result of Casazza's leadership, Aetna also has received national recognition for its support of Pro Bono legal services.
