"When I started back in the late 1990s or early 2000s, it was a pencil and paper version and we would mail it in," she said. Now, students get instant updates on the status of their stocks.
"I think the biggest excitement for the students is to see how their ranking is compared to their classmates," West said. "One of my students has made
West aims to help students learn the basics of investing while having some fun along the way.
"My goal is to give them a sense of financial awareness and how everything that happens in the world is impacted on the stock market. It's also a nice break from our textbook once in a while."
West feels it's important to pass along her knowledge of the stock market to the next generation.
"My father was always into investing, so he got me into it and when we saw this competition I knew it was something I wanted to bring to my students," she said.
