St. Cloud couple sued $75K for crash they were never in: report
Orlando Sentinel (FL)
A St. Cloud couple is facing a legal nightmare regarding a car crash they weren’t involved in but are still being sued for $75,000, according to a report by WKMG.
Paul and Kay Kirby sold their 2003 Lincoln Navigator in 2014 to a woman, WKMG reported. Four days later, the buyer veered into oncoming traffic and crashed into a school bus, WKMG reported.
That’s when the Kirbys began receiving mail from investigators, insurance companies and the woman’s attorney, according to the report.
They also received notice that a passenger on the school bus was suing them and the driver for $75,000, WKMG reported.
The Kirbys sent each party a bill of the vehicle’s sale, but there was an issue the Kirbys hadn’t accounted for.
The Kirbys filed all the paper work necessary for the vehicle transaction but never filed the notice of sale with the state, WKMG reported.
To make matters worse, the buyer never registered the car in her name, WKMG reported.
The Kirbys have not paid the judgment, and have had both of their driver’s licenses suspended, WKMG reported.
