Description:
Founded in 1970, Smithsonian Journeys (SJ) contracts with tour operators to provide cultural adult group travel, multigenerational family travel, active journeys, and tailor-made travel. SJ currently offers more than 300 departures to all seven continents, to both international and domestic locations. These adult and family travel experiences range from domestic, short-stay trips, to overland international tours, to small-ship ocean and river cruising, to immersive city and countryside stay programs, to active journeys (the "Tours"). Additional information on Smithsonian travel programs is available at www.smithsonianjourneys.org. SJ would like to provide as a convenience to participants who enroll in the Tours information about and the opportunity to obtain certain travel insurance coverage and assistance services in connection with the Tours. This competitively priced coverage would be optional, and tour participants who choose to purchase such coverage would purchase the coverage directly through the selected travel insurance provider. Smithsonian Journeys anticipates receiving a royalty on the revenue generated by the selected travel insurance provider for this royalty-bearing travel insurance program. In addition, Smithsonian Journeys seeks to purchase two types of additional insurance, both at competitive rates, as more fully set forth in the RFP: (1) Evacuation and repatriation insurance and access to medical assistance abroad for its tour participants, SJ tour staff (e.g., SJ experts and representatives accompanying the Tours and contracted by SJ), and other participants who may not have paid for the Tour but who may incur travel costs in an emergency ("zero-dollar travelers"); and (2) Emergency trip interruption, quarantine, and cancellation insurance for SJ staff accompanying the Tours, and zero-dollar travelers, as more fully set forth in Section II, Scope of Work, of the RFP. The RFP will be available on or about
