Six accused of staging accident in Wilson County

Aug. 03--Three people were arrested and three others are sought in an alleged insurance fraud scheme involving a staged auto accident in Wilson County, according to the N.C. Department of Insurance.

Five of the six people accused are from Rocky Mount.

Department of Insurance criminal investigators have accused Ikea Arrington, Jill Arrington, Carl Nicholson, Cornelius Wills, Devares Wilson and Vickie Wilson of staging a car accident on Nov. 2, 2014, and filing fraudulent insurance claims with Discovery Insurance and Nationwide Insurance Company, for which Discovery Insurance paid more than $32,000.

Cornelius Devonta Wills, Jr., 22, of 217 Hannon St., Enfield, was charged with two counts of insurance fraud and one count each obtaining property by false pretense, attempting to obtain property by false pretense and conspiracy to obtain property by false pretense. Wills was arrested in Wilson County on July 9 and placed under a $5,000 bond.

Vickie Wilson, 34, of 1405 Pinehaven Drive, Rocky Mount, was charged with two counts of insurance fraud and one count each obtaining property by false pretense, attempting to obtain property by false pretense, conspiracy to obtain property by false pretense, filing a false police report and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Wilson was arrested in Wilson County on July 13 and placed under a $10,000 bond.

Devares Wilson, 31, of 1405 Pinehaven Drive, Rocky Mount, was charged with two counts of insurance fraud and one count each obtaining property by false pretense, attempting to obtain property by false pretense and conspiracy to obtain property by false pretense. Wills was arrested in Wilson County on July 27 and placed under a $25,000 bond.

Investigators are seeking additional suspects in association with this case.

Ikea Arrington, 19, of 921 Jason Ct., Rocky Mount, is wanted for two counts of insurance fraud and one count each obtaining property by false pretense, attempting to obtain property by false pretense and conspiracy to obtain property by false pretense.

Jill Arrington, 38, of 921 Jason Ct., Rocky Mount, is wanted for two counts of insurance fraud and one count each obtaining property by false pretense, attempting to obtain property by false pretense, conspiracy to obtain property by false pretense, filing a false police report and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Carl Terrance Nicholson, 34, of 921 Jason Ct., Rocky Mount, is wanted for two counts of insurance fraud and one count each obtaining property by false pretense, attempting to obtain property by false pretense and conspiracy to obtain property by false pretense.

The Department of Insurance employs 20 sworn state law enforcement officers who investigate and prosecute claims of insurance and bail bonding fraud.

The department says an estimated 10 cents of every dollar paid in premiums goes toward the payment of fraudulent claims.
