Shooting at memorial service where 2 killed in west Riverside leaves 1 dead [The Press-Enterprise]

A man believed to be in his 20s was shot and killed early Friday, May 6, while a group gathered near a west Riverside house to remember one of the two men killed there earlier this week, police said.

The latest victim was struck while in a parking lot two buildings over from the house of the initial shooting, in the 11100 block of Pierce Street, after an argument broke out, said Officer Ryan Railsback, a spokesman for the Riverside Police Department. It was unclear what the disagreement was about.

One man pulled out a gun and shot the latest victim multiple times, including once in the head, Railsback said.

Responding officers found the victim, after 12:40 a.m., and attempted life-saving measures until paramedics arrived, but the man died at a hospital.

Police were hoping they could find surveillance video in the area that captured the shooting and the suspect fleeing.

Early Wednesday morning, the two men were fatally struck and a third man injured during an outburst of gunfire inside the one building that may have been set up as an illegal gambling establishment, police and the building’s owner have said.

That converted house is at Pierce Street and Rose Avenue. Between the two shooting scenes is a building with an auto insurance company and a smoke shop.

In the first shooting, Alexis Lua, 26, of Chino was found dead at the house, coroner’s officials said. Fred Beltran, 35, of San Pedro died at Riverside Community Hospital after a driver flagged down officers at 14th Street and the 91 Freeway with Beltran inside the car; the driver was apparently on the way to the hospital. It was unclear which victim the group on Friday morning had gathered to remember.

Police continue looking for who was responsible for the first shooting as well, the police spokesman said.
