WASHINGTON, April 6 -- Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minnesota, issued the following news release:
U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) joined President Joe Biden and former President Barack Obama at a White House event celebrating the 12th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and announcing an executive order to strengthen health care coverage and close the "family glitch" loophole.
"Closing coverage loopholes will help more families across our state reliably access affordable, quality health care through the Affordable Care Act," said Klobuchar. "I was proud to join Presidents Biden and Obama at the White House to celebrate this critical step to improving health care access and reducing costs for Minnesotans."
The "family glitch" loophole prevents millions of workers' dependents from qualifying for health plan tax credit subsidies in health insurance marketplaces if the worker is not offered affordable health care coverage through their employer.
Closing the loophole makes health insurance more affordable and within reach for more American families. The White House estimates that this executive order could increase insurance affordability for around 1 million people and provide 200,000 uninsured individuals with access to coverage.
