Sen. Kennedy Issues Statement on Extension of National Flood Insurance Program

WASHINGTON, Nov. 29 -- The office of Sen. John Kennedy, R-Louisiana, issued the following statement on plans to pass a seven-day extension of the National Flood Insurance Program:
"My bill to extend the NFIP for six months was the best solution for the millions of Americans who depend on this program. Unfortunately, several of my Senate colleagues have blocked the six-month extension.
"As an alternative solution, I am working with the House and the Senate on a seven-day extension that will bridge the gap until Dec. 7, when we hope to have a solution in our end-of-the-year budget bill.
"In the meantime, I don't want families to worry. No one will lose their coverage if the program lapses for a few days. We just won't be able to write new policies."
