WASHINGTON, March 25 -- Sen. Martin Heinrich, D-New Mexico, issued the following statement:
U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) issued the following statement calling on the Trump administration to create a special enrollment period to allow people without health insurance to purchase an Obamacare plan through the health insurance marketplaces during the COVID-19 pandemic:
"Now more than ever, Americans need to have access to health care.
"A special open enrollment period for individual coverage under the Affordable Care Act would allow people who need to purchase a health care plan a critical opportunity to do so.
"We need to ensure New Mexico families are insured and able to receive critical and lifesaving health care, which is good for public health and makes things safer for entire communities. I will continue to look for ways to take meaningful action to remove barriers to quality, affordable health care for everyone."
