Sept. 25--HAVERHILL -- The city hosted one of the biggest community events of the year on Saturday when Team Haverhill presented its annual River Ruckus celebration in the Riverfront District.
The Riverfront Stage was transformed into a music venue with a lineup of bands while on Washington Street, crowds gathered on a spectacular fall day to view and chat with the owners of classic cars, muscle cars, hot rods and specialty cars.
Frank Novak from HC Media presented a commentary on each vehicle.
Children's activities included a bouncy house, arts and crafts, face painting and games while Ruckus visitors satisfied their food cravings at "A Taste of Haverhill" with offerings from Casa Blanca Mexican Restaurant, Soulfire, Haverhill Beef, Hobbsies, Your Place and Ours, Kona Ice and Carter's Ice Cream.
The event's Harpoon Beer Garden featured a display of handcrafted beers, while Team Haverhill held a 50/50 raffle with additional prizes including hundreds of dollars worth of gift certificates to local restaurants, tickets to see The Frey in Boston, and tickets to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers as well as various Harpoon Ale promotional items.
The crowd also enjoyed the fireworks display over the river at 8 p.m.
This year's River Ruckus was sponsored by New York Life Insurance Company, Haverhill Bank, Pentucket Bank, the Greater Haverhill Foundation, MedExpress, Lowell Five, Creative Haverhill, and the Haverhill Rotary Club.
