WASHINGTON, March 14 -- Rep. Steve Womack, R-Arkansas, issued the following statement on President Trump's declaration of a national emergency to combat the coronavirus:
"Our top priority is to keep Americans safe and stop the spread of this virus. I support President Trump's action to declare this escalating public health threat a national emergency. This step will further strengthen emergency prevention, response, and preparedness efforts.
"We must all work together to meet this threat. In this spirit, I commend our work at the state level, as well as the public-private partnerships that were just announced to streamline and increase testing capacities. I'm especially proud to see a Third District company - Walmart - leading on this initiative. By focusing appropriate resources and exercising proper caution, we will overcome this challenge."
Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) has represented Arkansas'sThird Congressional District since 2011. He serves as the Ranking Member of the House Committee on the Budget and is a member of the House Appropriations defense and transportation, housing and urban development subcommittees.
