Rep. Turner: POTUS Advisor Navarro Says Delphi Retirees Are 'High Priority' for Trump

WASHINGTON, Sept. 26 -- Rep. Michael Turner, R-Ohio, issued the following news release on Sept. 25:

Yesterday, Peter Navarro, Assistant to President Trump, told Dayton Daily News regarding the pensions of the Delphi Salaried Retirees that "This has the President's attention, and we're moving. We're looking at it. It's a high priority. I will personally try to move this at least in terms of the legal review as quickly as we can." Additionally, Navarro told WFMJ, "We believe very strongly that Joe Biden and Barack Obama did a tremendous disservice to the Delphi salaried employees. There's certainly money there that could go a long way toward compensating these retirees. I mean, this has been devastating" for the retirees. "President Trump, he gets things done. He has the backs of American workers," Navarro said.

During the Obama Administration's 2009 taxpayer-funded General Motors (GM) bankruptcy bailout, the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) unjustly terminated the earned pension plans of more than 20,000 Delphi Salaried Retirees.

This decision caused devastating financial losses to these families since they depended upon their pensions, earned through decades of faithful service, to survive during retirement. The Delphi Salaried Retirees have been fighting since 2009 for their pensions. They have filed suit against the PBGC in Federal District Court in Detroit. The Delphi Salaried Retirees have requested that President Trump intervene in the pending litigation.

Trump is considering intervening in the Delphi Salaried Retirees' fight for their pensions.
